In an unusual incident during a live television broadcast, Australian reporter Andrea Crothers from the Today Show ended up making headlines while covering the recent floods in Brisbane. While trying to ward off an irritating mosquito that landed on her face, Crothers accidentally slapped herself.

The curious and somewhat comedic moment occurred as Crothers was on air, reporting on the flood events. The reporter, like many, not being a fan of insects, attempted to shoo away the mosquito but missed the mark. Her movement resulted in a self-slap on the face, with enough impact to be picked up by the microphone.

After the incident, Crothers was seen darting off-camera still flapping her arms as the insect “attack” persisted. The episode, though seemingly uncomfortable for the reporter at the time, was met with humor by her colleagues in the studio.

Crothers, who apparently emerged unscathed from the self-strike, ended up joining in on poking fun at herself.

The day after the viral slap, she wore a mesh helmet during the live broadcast, joking that it was HR-approved.

“I’m fine guys, HR said I could wear this as long as I don’t file a workers’ comp claim for a punch in the face,” the reporter said.
